2025-26 AVID Induction

AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) is a college and career readiness program that provides academic support to students, helping them to develop essential skills like note-taking, organization, and critical thinking. This program is designed to help students succeed in rigorous coursework and and close the achievement gap. 

Key Components of AVID:

  • Academic Support: AVID provides support in rigorous classes through strategies like the WICOR framework (Writing, Inquiry, Collaboration, Organization, and Reading)
  • Skill Development: Students learn critical skills such as effective note-taking, time management, organization, and study habits.
  • AVID Elective Class: This is a core part of the program that includes tutor-facilitated study groups, college and career exploration, and motivational activities.
  • College Readiness: The program focuses on preparing students for college by teaching them about the application process, financial aid, and exploring career opportunities.
  • Student Profile: AVID typically targets students who are in the academic middle, have a GPA between 2.0 and 3.5, and have the potential and desire to go to college.
